A new dawn of transparency.

Transparency: a key value of Blue Cube and something we are proudly synonymous with providing all customers with. Transparency includes offering customers the opportunity to "test drive" our new units, allowing them to put these through their paces in a real-world environment. Data, run independently from Blue Cube via the customers themselves, is then accrued and verified. This includes by our own in-house tech' experts, who remotely monitor the performance of all applicable units.  

Commitment to vigorous trialling pays dividends. 

Transparency also means we openly report the findings of these trials. Our brand new Ultra Range, officially launched in spring, went through an 18 month extensive trial period. Performance data was then analysed; allowing Blue Cube to accurately report areas of improvement to our UK manufacturer partners. The result is that at launch, the Ultra Range was already significantly optimised compared to the units initially installed at the beginning of the trial. 

Positive, real-world insights into superior performance. 

Performance data is constantly being reported, monitored and analysed. As such, we have sufficient data from various customers to provide an accurate insight into the real-world savings our Ultra Range of portable holding stores, in both freezer and chiller application. Both make for impressive reading.

An annual saving of £10,334.86 per unit is very promising. The figure is created by analysing the mean KW/h, over a 24 hour period. The Climate Change Levy is also included.

 Combined therefore, savings averaging £8600 per annum can be expected.  Factor in that many businesses operate multi-sites and therefore have multiple units, the reported savings run into the £100,000s every year.

We recognise that every business is different and factors including produce, on-site power supply and business location can directly impact the data we use. However, the above data is itself an average from multiple sites, multiple businesses and multiple produce. Therefore, there is a high confidence in the accuracy of these indicative savings.

New, free Business Carbon Calculator utilised by Blue Cube

What is the SME Climate Hub? 

Actions often do indeed speak louder than words. Adapting a business so that it ultimately becomes Net Zero is one fine example. No more "blah blah blah" as a certain Greta infamously mocked world leaders at last year's COP26.

Fortunately for businesses, there are plenty of free resources available that can facilitate such adaptation. One such resource Blue Cube has recently begun to engage with is the SME Climate Hub. The Hub:

"is a global initiative that aims to mainstream climate action in the small to medium sized business community, and enable SMEs to build resilient businesses for the future."  (SME Climate Hub)

With the exciting launch of our "Smart Hybrids," Blue Cube has already begun to make significant progress. Attending the Hub's latest Webinar in March was therefore particularly pertinent.

Informative Webinar inspires Blue Cube

Entitled: "this is how we get to net zero: empowering businesses to tackle climate change," the Webinar was an informative and thoroughly engaging event attended by a global audience. 

Particularly inspiring was the introduction of a brand new Business Carbon Calculator (BCC.) The Calculator has been created by a Stockholm based, global company called Normative and is free to use. 

Unlike other Calculators, the BCC covers all three "scopes," which every business will need to achieve if they are to reach Net Zero. Once a pleasingly straightforward survey has been completed, the BCC will calculate your business' carbon emissions. Most usefully, it will also provide us with clear guidance as to how to further reduce our emissions. The Business Carbon Calculator can be accessed via this link, and is well worth a look for your own operations. It is also not restricted to just SMEs, so will be relevant to many of our customer partners. 

Our Green journey has only just begun. 

We aim to have completed our own survey shortly and use this as its intended benchmark. From this, internal discussions will determine our next course of action, including possibly signing up to the SME Climate Hub Commitment.

Exciting new era of the Ultra Range is here! How will this benefit your business?

A new age of portable temperature controlled units has arrived!

There is even more excitement amongst the whole Blue Cube team at the moment. After an extensive period of real-world trials and testing, we're delighted to be officially launching our exclusive Ultra Range. The Ultra Range includes both Smart Hybrids, which include portable blast freezers, tempering and cooling units, plus portable holding stores. These holding stores are suitable for warm rooms, chillers or freezers. In this, our latest blog post, we examine how the Ultra Range can revolutionise your own businesses.

Ultra Range "Smart Hybrids." 

Why "Smart Hybrids?"  Working exclusively with our UK manufacturing partners, we have developed a unique cooling system that combines the benefits of both end and cross flow. All brand new appropriate units we supply will be Smart Hybrids. 

More capacity; less cost.

The Smart Hybrid units' cooling system also means there's more capacity than in comparable units. An increase in capacity is a real advantage for businesses, especially in the food and logistics sectors. 

At least a 33% increase in production performance.

During the real-world trials, customer partners of Blue Cube ran their own tests. Our in-house Tech teams used the data from this to optimise the performance still further. Real world tests, which required adding various different food products, prove that on average, the Ultra range Smart Hybrid blast freezers reach their required temperature in at least 33% less time. For example, if an existing blast freezer took 12 hours to reach this temperature, our Smart Hybrids took just 8. 

Customer partners therefore not only benefit from an optimised capacity within their blast units, the production capacity of their operations is significantly improved. One Director of manufacturing from a key account comments:

“Even in the short time we have had these Ultra units, our operations teams are already reporting a real difference, including a significant reduction in production time.
Exceptional energy efficiency.

These tests have also highlighted significant improvements in the energy efficiency of in particular the Smart Hybrid tempering units. These units can be up to four times more efficient. This is because they use a heating system that has been exclusively developed for Blue Cube. Energy efficiency has arguably never been more pertinent than in the present day.

Advanced Telemetry system. 

Making all of our customer partners' working lives as easy as possible is a core focus for us all here at Blue Cube. Both ourselves and our UK manufacturing partner invested considerable time accordingly on an advanced telemetry system. This provides any operator, with real-time performance and operating data, all displayed in a user-friendly interface.

Our focus on offering the most modern, highest capacity portable temperature solutions to our customers continues to strongly resonate. With proactive support from our parent company Turner Group, we will always look to make strategic additions to our team, when demand requires it.

With all that in mind, we're delighted to be looking for talented, fun-loving people to join Team Blue Cube in the following positions:

1) Business Development Manager-South

Ideally, you will be living below the North/South "border" of the Watford Gap services, such as the Home Counties. The majority of our Southern-based customer partners are in and around London, and the area has been well looked after by existing Blue Cube team members. 2) Service Manager-Stafford

Service is at the heart of everything we do at Blue Cube. In what is a brand new position for us, we´re looking for an experienced Service Manager to further optimise the service we offer all customer partners. Please contact our IT & Technical Manager Christopher for more information.

3) Service Engineers-Remote based

Our Service Depot has had a huge positive impact on our business. If you are a Service Engineer with experience in maintaining or repairing the same or similar products to our extensive portfolio, we would love to hear from you!

4) Refrigeration Engineers and Bodywork Specialists-Remote based.

Our Service Depot is a real hive of activity. All appropriate portable temperature controlled units benefit from a tech' and refrigeration upgrade at the end of their rental term. Every unit will also get repaired, including a fresh lick of paint via our specialist spray room facility. As many businesses look to become more sustainable in how they operate, this often extends to their supply chain partners' services and practices. In this, our latest blog post, we look at how our extensive portfolio of portable temperature controlled solutions and services can assist any business achieve their own green goals.

Proactively supporting the UK manufacturing sector.

All Blue Cube units will have been built by our UK manufacturing partners. This means that the carbon footprint of these units is significantly reduced. This is especially the case compared to if the units were manufactured outside of the UK. 

Our UK manufacturing partners are also committed to reducing their own environmental impact. They're doing this by increasing the recyclable parts used in the construction of the units they supply us. More recyclable parts means a reduction in landfill, once the units finally reach the end of their lifespan. 

Rent, not purchase.

As our recent "Rental vs Outright Purchase" blog post and accompanying infographic highlighted, our units are mostly rented. With our new Service Depot now fully operational, we can further extend the lifespan of our portfolio, rather than send these to the scrapyard.

Retro-fit upgrades.

Our in-house team of Engineers have the ability to upgrade appropriate units' refrigeration to the latest version. We will do this whenever it is feasible and practical to do so.

With refrigerated units running 24/7, 365 days a year, there has understandably been a real drive for the industry to become more energy efficient.

More specifically, this relates to the so-called Global Warming Potential (GWP.) There are many resources available online that explain what GWP is, including this article. To avoid entering a cul-de-sac of complex technical terminology, wherever feasible, we'll upgrade the refrigeration used with R449a Gas. This has a GWP of 1397, compared to the R404a gas it is replacing, which has a GWP of 3922. The higher the GWP, the less environmentally friendly the unit is. Put succinctly, each time an appropriate retrofitted unit is rehired, their environmental impact is reduced. So accordingly will our customer partners'.

SafeContractor Seal of Approval for Blue Cube PCS.

The Blue Cube PCS team was delighted to receive notification last week that our application to achieve SafeContractor accreditation has been successful. 

SafeContractor is the leading Safe Schemes In Procurement (SSIP) accreditation in the United Kingdom. To achieve the SafeContractor Approved status, we had to prove that all of our policies are compliant with the current Health & Safety legislation. It also illustrates that our internal processes for Health and Safety are best-in-class.

Blue Cube PCS' business requires our team to regularly visit client sites. Our SafeContractor Approved status will provide them with added peace of mind.

The accreditation was completed by our General Manager Will Barber, who comments: 

The process was streamlined and user-friendly. We are delighted to achieve Approved status, which will further strengthen our reputation nationwide."
