Never one to shirk from a challenge, our Marketing Manager Pete joined a 15 strong team last Thursday to embark on an epic adventure. The challenge? A Coast-to-Coast, 2 day, 160 mile bike ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, following the Hadrian's Cycleway. The cause? To raise thousands of pounds for Transaid, who are the Cold Chain Federation's main charity partner and with whom our MD Alan plays an active role in.
Superbly organised by Mellow Jersey, the first day began under crisp blue skies as the team, covering all ages and abilities, left Whitehaven to Carlisle. Hugging the West Cumbrian coastline, the team experienced stunning vistas and great camaraderie, everyone motivating one another.
The second day was altogether more challenging, including a total of 1300 metres (over 4000 feet) climbing over the Pennines from Carlisle to Tynemouth, following the Hadrian's Wall. The route took the team past ancient Roman Forts, surrounded by the breathtaking, rugged hills of Cumbria and Northumbria.
Finally arriving back at the hotel in Tynemouth, the team celebrated with a superb final meal before dragging their weary bodies for a very welcoming bed!
Commenting on the event, Pete says:
"It was a brilliant few days, a real challenge but certainly worth it. Best of all, we have managed to raise a lot of money for the Transaid charity, who carry out life-saving work across Sub Saharan Africa and beyond."
